_______________________________________________________________________

Selendris’ lands are made up of five continents and three oceans. The continents house a wide variety of land, forests, mountains, deserts, plains, etc., with most areas yielding plentiful resources.

Continents:

Odalis (Fatherland):

The largest continent in terms of land area and the main location for most of the civilizations and farming resources.

Cities:

:bulletwhite: Ainsley (hermitage, field) - A small village full of lush farms that provide a majority of the  resources for the northern end of the continent.

:bulletwhite: Lalita (playful, charming, desirable) - The world’s largest city. It is home to the largest concentration of Sages in the world.

:bulletwhite: Moran (viburnum shrub) - The largest forest city and the capital of the Elven homelands. The homes are almost all located within the branches of enormous trees.

:bulletwhite: Unathi (“God is with us”) - Just barely big enough to be called a city, it rests near one of the few ruin sites on Selendris. The ruins are presently off-limits due to dangerous spacial fluxes in the area.

Water:

:bulletwhite: Arinia (snail) - A cluster of lakes in northern Odalis known for bountiful sea life. The surrounding forests make it hard to build fishing towns around the lakes however, so there aren’t any major ports.

:bulletwhite: Caoimhe (gentleness, beauty and grace) - A gulf in northern Odalis known for remarkably calm waters and warm temperatures.

:bulletwhite: Cordelie (jewel of the seas) - A hot bay in southern Ordalis known for its bathwater warm temperatures and water that glitters like jewels.

:bulletwhite: Drifa (snow flurry) - A lake in northern Odalis frequently subjected to bouts of freezing temperatures that often lead to random spurts of snow, hence the lake’s name.

:bulletwhite: Fionn (fair) - The largest river within the Mazhar forest. The crystal clear waters are full of fish year round.

:bulletwhite: Mahlahchen (weak morning)
- An enormous mountain lake, actually located in the crater of an enormous dormant volcano. The surrounding ridges make it so this lake rarely gets direct sunlight; because of this, it’s usually fairly cold.

:bulletwhite: Meriel (bright sea) - The largest lake within the Mazhar forest. The elves believe a goddess visited it millenia ago and hold the waters as sacred. So no skinny dipping.

:bulletwhite: Oralaith (golden lady) - One of the four largest rivers on Ordalis, much of the rock and sand in the river is a golden color.

:bulletwhite: Rier (to furrow with little irrigation trenches) - The largest delta on Ordalis, crops with high water needs are grown here.

:bulletwhite: Seanna (god's grace) - One of the four largest rivers on Ordalis, it’s split in the middle by Lake Snaedis and has many smaller rivers branching out from it. It provides most of the irrigation in that area.

:bulletwhite: Snaedis (snow goddess) - A lake in the center of the plains. It’s a gathering place for many wild animals and perfect for hunting. The silver white sand lends it the appearance of being covered in snow, despite no snow ever reaching it.

:bulletwhite: Teagan (little poet) - A large, cold river in northern Ordalis that flows west through the Mazhar forest. Its name comes from the peculiar babbling sound it makes, which is reminiscent of a group of poets speaking together.

Forests:

:bulletwhite: Mazhar (honored) - The largest forest on Selendris and homeland to the Elves. The trees grow tall and thick, able to hold many houses in their branches, and produce a wide variety of fruits.

Mountains:

:bulletwhite: Elven Sefyllfa (elf's plight) - The northernmost dormant volcano in Ordalis. The name comes from ancient times when a large mass of Elves sought refuge in these mountains from armies hunting them for their magical skills, as it was once believed that one could steal an elf’s magic through murder.

:bulletwhite: Reazem (the tower) - The tallest mountain in Odalis. It is perpetually cold.

:bulletwhite: Sthenos (strength) - A dormant volcano with a large lake in the crater, this volcano was responsible for the highly fertile land surrounding it.

:bulletwhite: Uthyr (terrible) - An active volcano whose short range eruptions dump soot and ash into the neighboring sea and wastelands. The scorching hot temperatures combined with the volcano’s activity means that very little survives there.

:bulletwhite: Zelen (green) - A small, dormant volcano covered in lush greens and plentiful wildlife.

:bulletwhite: Zosimus (likely to survive, viable) - The only mountain range on Odalis. It’s plentiful resources and complex series of caves and tunnels are perfect to live out of for a while... as long as you don’t fall off.

Deserts:

:bulletwhite: Esteril (desolated) - The smaller of Selendris’ only two deserts, the ocean border does little to wet this dry land and the wind from the sea doing little to cool it.

Iseul (dew):

The most diverse continent and home to a wide variety of mythical locales and pilgrimage sites.

Cities:

:bulletwhite: Aegle (light, radiance, joy)
- A large oasis-like desert city. The water from the nearby lake keeps the city several degrees cooler than its surroundings.

:bulletwhite: Erlend (foreigner) - A miner’s city in the middle of the northwestern wastelands of Iseul. Most of what is found in the surrounding areas are precious gemstones that are made into accessories for the rich or transported to other locations to be sold.

:bulletwhite: Gamaliman (beauty of faith) - A small city that’s forever covered in snow and nestled right in the middle of the coast and the mountains. Most profits come from fishing.

:bulletwhite: Hyacinthe (name of a flower) - An island city in the center of wastelands. People used to believe that nymphs lived in this area, but it’s now just a popular rest spot for travellers.

:bulletwhite: Vasudha (producer of wealth) - A small forest city full of natural resources that remains small due to the difficulty in reaching it from outside.

:bulletwhite: Shanta (pacified, calm) - A large city on the northern peninsula of Iseul. The people here are mostly known for being quiet craftsmen for things such as charms, talismans, and enchanted jewelry.

:bulletwhite: Vinh (glory) - Also known as Vinhfon, due to the river Afon running through it, this city bustles with merchants and is known for its continuously perfect weather.

Water:

:bulletwhite: Afon (river) - Despite it’s simple name this river has the clearest and best tasting water in the world. Some people make a living off of selling the water to far away patrons.

:bulletwhite: Branimir (protection + great, famous) - A delta in northwestern Iseul that’s surprisingly full of rice paddies, despite its location in less favorable lands.

:bulletwhite: Elchin (ambassador) - A large bay full of the more exotic sea life. Most of the native fauna aren’t edible, and are a bit creepy-looking. It’s believed to be the lair of mystical creatures, and sailors tell stories about krakens who live in the depthsthough none of these tales have been confirmed.

:bulletwhite: Hilaris (cheerful) - The smallest of the inland seas in Iseul. Its waters are cool since the mountain range to the south blocks most of the desert heat.

:bulletwhite: Irvine (green water) - The gulf of southern Iseul, known for dangerous waters and very few ports. Many ships have sunk in these waters, which are murky and of greenish coloration thanks to its dense aquatic plant life.

:bulletwhite: Karam (generosity) - A lake oasis in the middle of the desert, the waters are brought from underground and refilled from the rains in the mountains to the west. Great care is taken to keep these waters pure.

:bulletwhite: Lau (laurel) - This lake is surrounded by a surprising multitude of laurel plants and flowers.

:bulletwhite: Maol (follower, servant) - A semi-murky lake in the northwestern wastelands of Iseul. Many miners like to go for a swim there after a hard day’s work.

:bulletwhite: Nerida Sea (water lily) - The largest inland sea of Iseul. It’s full of water lilies and other aquatic plantlife. Many healing herbs can be found in and around the sea.

:bulletwhite: Rhiannon (great queen) - A lake at the eastern end of the desert. Its waters are bone-chillingly cold despite the wafting heat from the west.

:bulletwhite: Rotemudo (to bind fortune) - The middle inland sea of Iseul. Travellers often follow its edge for the first half of the trip through the desert.

Forests:

:bulletwhite: Acantha (thorn, prickle) - A small forest at the southern end of the desert full of prickly plants that thrive in dry, hot areas.

:bulletwhite: Eoforwine (boar friend) - The western forest of Iseul, full of boars and other wildlife.

:bulletwhite: Kajaedi (echo of a rich guard) - A tiny forest on the southern island below Iseul. It’s rumored to be the home of unicorns, and supposedly still holds their mystical secrets. Getting to the island proves to be difficult though.
:bulletwhite: Tabitabanu (gazelle lady) - A forest full of sloping hills that make it easy to get lost. There are plenty of deer roaming around that are hunted for meat or tamed to become livestock.

:bulletwhite: Tir Nymffau (land of nymphs) - It was once believed that there were nymphs living in these woods; now people just tell tales of ghosts and hauntings. Weather here tends to be fresh and slightly humid, oddly independent of other regions.

Mountains:

:bulletwhite: Cleisthenes (glory+strength) - Breeding grounds for large packs of pegasi that migrate there every year, this mountain attracts both tamers and adventurers alike.

:bulletwhite: Edwige (battle, war) - This narrow mountain range is know for the countless number of highly territorial birds that make it their home. Some species’ angry chirps and flapping wings are similar to the sound of clashing metal.

:bulletwhite: Saetur (cute) - A small range of mountains close to Tir Nymffau and Hyacinthe. If there is anything cute about it besides the name, no one tells.

:bulletwhite: Saskia (knife) - The widest mountain range of Iseul, separating the wastelands  from all other regions like a blade. Its steep, sheer surface, added to by the sharp stones that compose it, makes Saskia a dangerous choice for climbing or traveling of any kind. Many griffins have made their homes here.

:bulletwhite: Sotiris (salvation) - This little mountain neighboring the Lau lake is covered in green from top to bottom, and is a known pilgrimage route for those seeking initiation into the churches. It’s said the journey can purify a sincere soul from sins and the contact with the natural environment unites all with the earth.

:bulletwhite: Vsevolod (to rule all) - The tallest mountain of Selendris, albeit not the largest by far. Itcontains some sparse areas inhabited by small settlements of gargoyles. Strangely, around a third of the travelers heading to Sotiris in pilgrimage end up reaching Vsevolod and climbing it by mistake.

Deserts:

:bulletwhite: Taymuraz (strong body) - It used to be believed that this desert was impassable, and many would test their skills by seeing how long they could last in its dunes. Now you’re more likely to hear people complaining about the heat.

Cahaya (Light):

The smallest continent, full of haggling merchants and fresh starts of all kinds.

Cities:

:bulletwhite: Marchand (merchant, to trade) - A city of merchants who are both generous and stingy all at once. They can offer you a bed to sleep on for the night but charge you your entire purse for a bath to go with it. (slightly exaggerated)

:bulletwhite: Wedekind (wood child) - This small town used to be surrounded by forest, but the logging industry cut them all down. Now the townspeople mostly focus on restoring the trees that were once there.

Water:

:bulletwhite: Coemgein (kind, gentle, handsome) - A winding river in northern Cahaya. It’s chock-full of large fish that never seem to run out.

:bulletwhite: Dione (goddess) - A bay in southwestern Cahaya with temperamental waters. They’ll be pleasantly warm and calm one day and frigid and choppy the next.

:bulletwhite: Ezer (help) - The only lake on the smallest continent of the world has quite a few ghost stories to go with it. The pressurized water that spills from underground results in a constant thin mist and echoing hissing, leading to the idea that the souls of the deceased sought peace and help here when they couldn’t find the afterlife. Some inhabitants from Wedekind swear you can hear the dead souls calling if you go too close.

:bulletwhite: Shulammit (peace) - It’s uncertain where this ancient gulf’s name came from, but the younger generations seem to have settled on the idea that it’s an abbreviation of, “Shut up, dammit!”. The rough waves certainly seem to support that idea.

Forests:

:bulletwhite: Ayotunde (joy has returned) - This forest was wiped out hundreds of years ago, but has been restored by diligent elves and human assistants. Or so they claim.

:bulletwhite: Mireille (to admire) - A smaller forest known for exotic plant life that’s beautiful to look at but not very useful for anything other than adornment.

:bulletwhite: Shafaqat (compassion, pity) - Recently grown from seemingly nowhere, this forest has replaced the once icy wastelands. Half of Selendris’ scholars seem delighted and impressed by the phenomenon. The other half is panicking over irregular climate change.

Mountains:

:bulletwhite: Dmitar (earth mother) - Also known as the World’s Womb, this mountain, once an active volcano, is peculiarly hollow, containing a large air chamber in its center and a series of natural-looking tunnels that connect the mountain’s center.

:bulletwhite: Fahmida (Intelligent scholar) - Many scholars believe that travelling to this mountain and spending a month there will help them reach a solution for their unanswered questions.

:bulletwhite: Khorshid (shining sun) - Usually, the sun is the only thing that touches this tiny sleeping volcano. Bare of any vegetation and away from the sea wind’s routes, its dry rocky soil rarely if ever sees rainor travelers, or animals, or anything else. Despite its slumber, the roaring noise of deep underground eruptions can sometimes be heard; some people claim it’s the mountain snoring.

:bulletwhite: Vargha (cobbler) - It’s said that a long time ago, before a large extension of its land crumbled into the depths of the Kleos Gulf, the Vargha range was a “chubby” volcano with a shape that resembled a cobbler.

Jun Lavern (Ruler of spring):

The ironically named southern continent of ice. Its only inhabitants live on a small island just beyond its frigid reach.

Cities:

:bulletwhite: Vanora (white wave) - Another somewhat ironic name, as this town is located in the only green land of Jun Lavern. To the dismay of many inhabitants, but delight of tourists, Vanora is covered in a beautiful blanket of snow for half of the year.

Mountains:

:bulletwhite: Eirakai (snow spear) - Two lone mountain peaks sticking up at the edge of a snowfield. They produce a large amount of silver that has to be carefully mined because of the cold.

Isolde (ice):

The northern continent. It’s mostly covered in ice, but remains home to gargoyles and a few hardy individuals.

Cities:

:bulletwhite: Cyrus (far sighted, young) - The original homeland of the gargoyle race. Their natural resilience allowed them to prosper despite the less than favorable environment.

:bulletwhite: Vere (Alder) - A key trade point between Cyrus and Lalita, this city is famous for being the location where the peace treaty between all of the races was signed.

Water:

:bulletwhite: Gittel (good) - Despite the icy nature of most of the continent, this lake remains warm and unfrozen. A natural hot spring, it is heated and filled by underground currents that run close to the Marek volcano.

:bulletwhite: Kunti (spear) - A gulf in southeastern Isolde that cuts into the continent and almost separates it from Odalis. Enormous sea monsters are frequently seen in these mild waters.

:bulletwhite: Suero (army) - The multitude of rivers spread throughout these lands make the grounds forever muddy. Soldiers are often seen training here.

Forests:

:bulletwhite: Enitan (person of story) - There are many stories of people who were lost in this forest.

Mountains:

:bulletwhite: Marek (fire) - A fiery volcano lies in the middle of these mountains and spews a steady stream of lava, melting the glaciers around it.

Oceans:

:bulletwhite: Gamal (beauty) - The least traveled ocean, despite its relatively calm waters. It’s known for its beautiful sunrises.

:bulletwhite: Laelius (flower) - Many areas of this ocean are different colors because of vast schools of tiny brightly-colored fish that swarm throughout the regions.

:bulletwhite: Vasudha (producer of wealth) - The most commonly traveled ocean, since four of the five continents can be accessed from it. Many trade ships favor these seas rather than the other oceans since they can reach more places in one trip.
